During a frequency dip, the dotted line \u2014 representing BESS response \u2014 reacts faster than conventional generation. This leads to the frequency nadir\u2014 the low point of frequency \u2014 being shallower and shorter.<\/span><\/p><p style=\"margin: 0in; font-family: Calibri; font-size: 11.0pt;\"><span style=\"background: white;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p style=\"margin: 0in; font-family: Calibri; font-size: 11.0pt;\"><span style=\"background: white;\">Fast action is critical. If frequency drifts for too long, generating units disconnect to protect themselves, as happened recently in\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pv-magazine.com\/2025\/06\/18\/overvoltage-chain-reaction-improper-disconnections-behind-spains-blackout\/\"><span style=\"background: white;\">Spain<\/span><\/a><span style=\"background: white;\">. BESSs have long proved their worth in the fast acting frequency space: Australia\u2019s Hornsdale system \u2014 the first big BESS on the power grid in the world \u2014\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pv-magazine-australia.com\/2018\/01\/12\/a-month-in-teslas-sa-battery-is-surpassing-expectations\/\"><span style=\"background: white;\">kept the grid stable<\/span><\/a><span style=\"background: white;\">\u00a0after a large coal plant tripped offline.<\/span><\/p><p style=\"margin: 0in; font-family: Calibri; font-size: 11.0pt;\"><span style=\"background: white;\">Older solar plants with\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/pv-magazine-usa.com\/2025\/05\/28\/level-3-alert-for-solar-inverters-from-nations-power-grid-reliability-council\/\"><span style=\"background: white;\">legacy inverter settings<\/span><\/a><span style=\"background: white;\">\u00a0can struggle when frequency strays outside normal limits, a stability concern the report also
