El primero condiciona las proyecciones a trayectorias de emisi\u00f3n estandarizadas, las <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">Shared Socioeconomic Pathways<\/span> y las <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">Representative Concentration Pathways<\/span>, evaluadas en periodos futuros fijos, t\u00edpicamente 2050 o 2075.\u00a0El segundo, adoptado por el Sexto Informe de Evaluaci\u00f3n del IPCC y por la Quinta Evaluaci\u00f3n Nacional del Clima en Estados Unidos, condiciona los resultados a umbrales fijos de temperatura media global, como 2.0, 3.0 o 4.0 grados respecto al periodo preindustrial, con independencia del a\u00f1o en que cada modelo alcance ese umbral.<\/p><p style=\"margin: 0in; font-family: Calibri; font-size: 12.0pt; color: black;\">\u00a0<\/p><p style=\"margin: 0in; font-family: Calibri; font-size: 12.0pt; color: black;\">\u00a0<\/p><p style=\"margin: 0in; font-family: Calibri; font-size: 12.0pt; color: black;\">Este cambio traslada la pregunta de planeaci\u00f3n de cu\u00e1ndo ocurrir\u00e1 una amenaza hacia qu\u00e9 condiciones f\u00edsicas existir\u00e1n una vez cruzado determinado umbral de calentamiento. El estudio cobra relevancia regulatoria porque la <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">California Public Utilities Commission<\/span> emiti\u00f3 en agosto de 2024 una decisi\u00f3n que exige a las principales empresas de energ\u00eda de inversi\u00f3n privada del estado utilizar el marco GWL en sus evaluaciones de adaptaci\u00f3n y vulnerabilidad clim\u00e1tica. Ante este giro, EPRI responde dos preguntas: qu\u00e9 tan distintos son los resultados de cada enfoque, y cu\u00e1les son sus implicaciones operativas para planeadores de transmisi\u00f3n, distribuci\u00f3n y expansi\u00f3n de capacidad. Para responder estas preguntas, el equipo t\u00e9cnico construy\u00f3 un an\u00e1lisis comparativo con ocho modelos clim\u00e1ticos CMIP6 regionalizados del conjunto NASA-NEX, entre ellos ACCESS-CM2, CanESM5, FGOALS-g3, GFDL-ESM4, IPSL-CM6A-LR, MIROC6, MPI-ESM1-2-HR y MRI-ESM2-0, combinados con cuatro trayectorias de forzamiento SSP1-2.6, SSP2-4.5, SSP3-7.0 y SSP5-8.5. Con esta base, el estudio calcula la temperatura media anual y la m\u00e1xima anual para Atlanta y Toronto, comparando ventanas de veinte a\u00f1os bajo el enfoque escenario-a\u00f1o, centradas en 2035, 2060 y 2080, frente a los mismos indicadores en los umbrales GWL de 2.0, 3.0 y 4.0 grados.<\/p><p style=\"margin: 0in; font-family: Calibri; font-size: 12.0pt; color: black;\">\u00a0<\/p><p style=\"margin: 0in; font-family: Calibri; font-size: 12.0pt; color: black;\">\u00a0<\/p><p style=\"margin: 0in; font-family: Calibri; font-size: 12.0pt; color: black;\">Los resultados muestran que el marco GWL reduce sistem\u00e1ticamente la dispersi\u00f3n de las proyecciones de temperatura media, en especial en horizontes de largo plazo, porque agrega simulaciones de m\u00faltiples trayectorias que convergen en un mismo nivel de calentamiento, aislando las diferencias entre modelos de las asociadas a la trayectoria de emisiones. Esta reducci\u00f3n de incertidumbre no se extiende a los eventos extremos: al evaluar la temperatura m\u00e1xima anual, la dispersi\u00f3n bajo GWL resulta tan amplia como bajo el enfoque escenario-a\u00f1o, reflejo de que la variabilidad interna del sistema clim\u00e1tico y los procesos regionales siguen dominando el comportamiento de los extremos t\u00e9rmicos. El documento complementa este an\u00e1lisis con una discusi\u00f3n cualitativa sobre fortalezas, limitaciones y aplicaciones de cada marco, sintetizada en una tabla comparativa sobre tratamiento del tiempo, dimensiones de incertidumbre y casos de uso en sistemas de potencia. El escenario-a\u00f1o resulta m\u00e1s adecuado para decisiones de din\u00e1mica intertemporal, como la planeaci\u00f3n integrada de recursos o la programaci\u00f3n de inversiones en horizontes de quince a treinta a\u00f1os, y para amenazas dependientes de la trayectoria de emisiones, como el aumento del nivel del mar o los efectos de aerosoles industriales.\u00a0<\/p><p style=\"margin: 0in; font-family: Calibri; font-size: 12.0pt; color: black;\">\u00a0<\/p><p style=\"margin: 0in; font-family: Calibri; font-size: 12.0pt; color: black;\">\u00a0<\/p><p style=\"margin: 0in; font-family: Calibri; font-size: 12.0pt; color: black;\">El GWL resulta m\u00e1s apropiado para decisiones de dise\u00f1o y fortalecimiento de activos de muy larga vida \u00fatil, donde aislar la magnitud f\u00edsica de la amenaza importa m\u00e1s que precisar el momento exacto en que ocurrir\u00e1. A partir de estas conclusiones, EPRI plantea un enfoque h\u00edbrido para la planeaci\u00f3n el\u00e9ctrica, en el que los GWL sirven como herramienta primaria para establecer umbrales f\u00edsicos de dise\u00f1o, mientras trayectorias de emisi\u00f3n plausibles estiman las ventanas temporales en que dichos umbrales podr\u00edan alcanzarse. El informe cierra explorando oportunidades vinculadas a la inteligencia artificial: generaci\u00f3n de trayectorias de emisiones que satisfagan restricciones de tiempo y condiciones socioecon\u00f3micas, emuladores clim\u00e1ticos de menor costo computacional para actualizar proyecciones casi en tiempo real, y procesamiento de lenguaje natural para traducir resultados probabil\u00edsticos complejos en narrativas claras para reguladores y planeadores. Tambi\u00e9n anticipa el papel del pr\u00f3ximo archivo CMIP7, vinculado a los objetivos del Acuerdo de Par\u00eds y a los niveles de calentamiento global.
