Scientists are working on using sulfur to create more affordable and efficient batteries for electric vehicles and renewable energy storage. While lithium-ion batteries currently dominate the market, lithium-sulfur batteries have the potential to be cheaper and hold more energy. However, there are challenges in making them last as long as lithium-ion batteries. The company Lyten has made progress in improving the lifetime and energy density of lithium-sulfur batteries, but it will still take time before they are suitable for powering electric vehicles.
