A decade ago, the EU Smart Grids Task Force was set up to advise the European Commission on issues related to the development and deployment of smart grids. It is supported by several expert groups that focus on energy value chain debates on specific smart grids topics.
In 2017, three new expert groups started their work to advise the Commission on preparing the grounds for potential secondary legislation on data exchange, cybersecurity for the electricity sector and demand response, for implementing the Clean Energy Package and the revised Electricity Regulation EU 2019/943 and Electricity Directive 2019/944 in particular.
