Regen has been working with Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) to produce scenario-based projections of Low Carbon Technology (LCT) installations to a feeder substation level. The aim of this work is to better understand the potential impacts of electric vehicles and other low carbon technologies on distribution networks and help the Distribution Network Operators (DNO) investment planning and risk mitigation strategies.
The analysis for the report was undertaken for five unique scenarios. These included the four scenarios in National Grid’s 2019 Future Energy Scenarios study: Two Degrees, Community Renewables, Consumer Evolution and Steady Progression along with a fifth scenario, titled Net Zero. This final scenario was included to take account of the UK Parliament’s climate emergency declaration on 1 May, the 2050 net zero emissions target being passed into law on 27 June, and a ban on new petrol, diesel and hybrid cars being brought forward to 2035.
