Eurelectric response paper to the public consultation on Delegated Act on Additionality

Indeed, renewable H2, whose use should be directed towards hard to electrify sectors (e.g. steel, ammonia, refineries, heavy-duty transport), needs electricity from renewable sources, therefore RES-E generation must be stepped up accordingly. The Delegated Act defining the rules for producing green hydrogen in the transport sector should make sure that, while guaranteeing the renewable origin of RFNBOs in a clear and transparent manner, the scale up of renewable hydrogen production and E-fuels is enabled.

Eurelectric Position Paper on the Revision of the Industrial Emissions Directive & Industrial Emissions Portal

Eurelectric fully understands the need for and supports an ambitious emissions policy in Europe while ensuring coherence with the latest climate and energy targets set by the ‘Fit-for-55’, and the ‘REPowerEU’ Communication to achieve a better environment and human health in a cost-effective approach. As highlighted by the numerous reports of the European Environmental Agency1, in the last decades, the power sector has undertaken drastic efforts to reduce its non-CO₂ emissions and significantly limit its air pollution. For instance, between 1990 and 2019, emissions of SO₂ and NOx by the electricity industry fell by 95% and 72% respectively, while direct emissions of PM2.5 were reduced by 79%.

  • Natural Resource Windfalls In Nonproducing Areas

Natural Resource Windfalls In Nonproducing Areas

The impact of price-drive n mineral windfalls on human capital requires disentangling multiple potential causal channels. A mineral -producing region that enjoys a price surge will see impacts on both household  level  income  (of  those  involved  in  the  mineral  production)  and  on  royalties  and  taxes  local governments receive from the mineral production. Both channels can affect human capital indicators. To determine  whether  public  expenditures  have  any  impact  on  human  capital,  an  ideal  experiment  would increase government revenue while keeping household income constant.

  • Know Your Oil and Gas

    Know Your Oil and Gas

The Know Your Oil and Gas report — along with the accompanying Oil Climate Index plus Gas (OCI+) web tool — analyzes the life-cycle GHG emissions for one-half of the world’s current oil and gas production. Emissions intensities are estimated from upstream extraction, midstream refining, downstream transport, and end-use combustion. Greater transparency is urgently needed to expand beyond the publicly available data used in this current assessment of 135 global oil and gas resources.

  • Recommended Criteria for Cybersecurity Labeling for Consumer Internet of Things (IoT) Products

Recommended Criteria for Cybersecurity Labeling for Consumer Internet of Things (IoT) Products

This document provides recommended criteria for a cybersecurity labeling effort for consumer internet of things (IoT) products. Executive Order (EO) 14028, “Improving the Nation’s Cybersecurity,” [EO14028] issued on May 12, 2021, directed the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) to develop these criteria for use in a pilot program.

NIST was directed to “identify IoT cybersecurity criteria for a consumer labeling program, and shall consider whether such a consumer labeling program may be operated in conjunction with or modeled after any similar existing government programs consistent with applicable law. The criteria shall reflect increasingly comprehensive levels of testing and assessment that a product may have undergone, and shall use or be compatible with existing labeling schemes that manufacturers use to inform consumers about the security of their products.”

Research Insights: Did Demand for Telemedicine Grow During the COVID-19 Pandemic?

The healthcare crisis created the need to find ways to provide essential services while respecting social distancing measures. In this context, the perceived additional benefit of digital solutions reduced behavioral barriers and allowed a broad set of patients to become acquainted with telemedicine services for the first time.

  • Building ecosystems: identifying tech start-up enablers in ASEAN

Building ecosystems: identifying tech start-up enablers in ASEAN

This report identifies and analyses the main ecosystem enablers for a thriving tech start-up economy in ASEAN low- and middle-income countries. It outlines best practices in countries where those enablers have helped to create a vibrant tech start-up ecosystem. The report also looks to identify the barriers which are hindering progress among start-ups in the ASEAN tech ecosystem, and then concludes with strategic recommendations for key stakeholders.

  • The 5G FWA opportunity: a scenario for Southeast Asia

The 5G FWA opportunity: a scenario for Southeast Asia

This is the fifth in a series of research reports examining the conditions under which 5G FWA can be a cost-effective means to deliver broadband services, compared to alternative wireline technologies and according to different deployment strategies. In this report, we focus on the opportunity for mobile network operators and internet service providers in Southeast Asia to provide 5G FWA services. We start with an overview of the state of the fixed broadband market in the region and then use our unique total cost of ownership model to show under what conditions 5G FWA would be a cost-effective alternative to fibre to the home for providing download speeds of at least 100 Mbps.

  • DARPA study challenges assumptions about distributed ledger (and Bitcoin) security

DARPA study challenges assumptions about distributed ledger (and Bitcoin) security

Ethereum uses a VM for executing its smart contracts. Blockchains’ VM semantics often evolve in response to both the demand for new features and the need for security mitigations. New VM opcodes are often added, and the costs of performing certain operations are regularly tweaked to prevent denial-of-service attacks.
