    Assuming economics drive adoption, ZEV sales could reach 42% of all MD/HD trucks by 2030, reflecting lower combined vehicle purchase and operating costs (using real-world payback periods). • In this scenario, ZEV sales reach >99% by 2045, and 80% of the MD/HD stock transitions to ZEVs by 2050, reducing CO2 emissions by 69% from 2019. • Two technological solutions—battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs)—are viable in multiple market segments, offering alternative pathways for decarbonization.– BEVs tend to become cost-competitive for smaller trucks before 2030 and for short-haul (<500-mile) heavy trucks before 2035.– Hydrogen FCEVs tend to become cost-competitive for long-haul (>500-mile) heavy trucks by 2035.

    El sector de los edificios desempeña un papel fundamental en la descarbonización de la economía mundial. En la Asociación de Naciones del Sudeste Asiático (ASEAN), los edificios representan cerca de una cuarta parte del consumo total de energía final de la región y de las emisiones de CO2 relacionadas con la energía 

    The buildings sector plays a key role in decarbonising the global economy. In the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), buildings account for close to a quarter of the region’s total final energy consumption and energy-related CO2 emissions. With continued economic development, urbanisation and population growth across the region, the International Energy Agency’s (IEA) analysis shows that both final energy consumption and CO2 emissions in buildings will continue to grow without ambitious policy actions. Improving the energy efficiency of building envelopes and systems, increasing renewable energy utilisation, phasing out the use of traditional biomass and switching to clean cooking and electricity, while enhancing energy access for vulnerable households across the region, can result in more than a 60% reduction in CO2 emissions from buildings by 2040 in relation to 2020, and provide many other benefits to households, society and governments.

    Roadmap towards Sustainable and Energy-Efficient Space Cooling in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations

    La refrigeración de espacios es el uso de energía que más crece en los edificios a nivel mundial y en la Asociación de Naciones del Sudeste Asiático (ASEAN). El uso de electricidad para la refrigeración de edificios en toda la región ha aumentado drásticamente en las últimas décadas. Sin embargo, hoy en día, sólo el 15% de los hogares del Sudeste Asiático tienen aire acondicionado; los ventiladores representan alrededor de otro 9% del uso de energía residencial. 

    Space cooling is the fastest-growing use of energy in buildings globally and in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). Electricity use for cooling in buildings across the region has increased dramatically over the past decades. Yet today, only 15% of households in Southeast Asia have an air conditioner; fans represent around another 9% of residential energy use. With continued economic development and population growth across the region, the International Energy Agency (IEA) projects that air conditioner ownership across the ASEAN Member States (AMS) will continue to grow. This growth could see electricity demand from space cooling in the region grow to 300 TWh in 2040 – approximately equivalent to the total electricity consumption of Indonesia and Singapore combined. 

    The Roadmap towards Sustainable and Energy-Efficient Space Cooling in ASEAN focuses on the policy tools available for AMS to drive energy efficiency improvements for space cooling. It sets ambitious milestones for space cooling technologies, including air conditioners and fans, that can help guide the ambitions outlined in this roadmap and subsequent action across ASEAN.
