Getting Down to Business: Enabling Action and Enhancing Credibility in Net-Zero Banking Using a Portfolio-Led Approach

A ello deben seguir medidas sólidas y creíbles.

This report introduces a portfolio-led approach to enhance credibility and robustness of net-zero banking. Designed to help banks translate their net-zero commitments into action, this approach can help bankers navigate increasing stakeholder expectations, an evolving landscape of net-zero guidelines, and complex organizational structures.

  • Power System Decarbonization Pathways in Northwestern China

Power System Decarbonization Pathways in Northwestern China

China’s northwestern region is facing the challenge of transitioning from coal to renewable fuels. At the same time, the region is one of the most important energy bases in China, and about 28 percent of its total power generation is exported to other provinces. With the completion of cross-regional transmission lines and large energy bases, the proportion of exports will continue to grow. Therefore, power system decarbonization in the northwestern region will have a significant impact and will provide best practices for the national power system.

  • Digitalization in the Extractive Sector: A Comparative Analysis of the Andean Region

Digitalization in the Extractive Sector: A Comparative Analysis of the Andean Region

Hence, the adoption of digital technologies appears as a unique opportunity that would enable the industry to meet the challenges posed by the energy transition that is looming. In this challenging context, companies in the extractive sector have started to rethink not only their internal operations, but also the ways in which they interact with communities, the environment, and public opinion.

EU solar energy associations launch €300,000 Ukraine fundraising campaign

On 22 December, the German Solar Industry Association (BSW), SolarPower Europe and the Ukrainian Solar Energy Association (ASEU) launched a widespread donation campaign, ‘Solar Supports Ukraine’ to support Ukraine’s energy infrastructure and the citizens of Ukraine.

Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has been raging for over 10 months. With winter fast approaching, sustained support for Ukraine is more important than ever. As of August 2nd, 2022, more than 140,000 residential buildings in Ukraine have been destroyed. Over half of Ukrainian energy infrastructure and electricity production facilities have been damaged and destroyed as a result of Russian missile attacks.

  • Renewables Can Diminish Expensive Kyrgyz Energy Imports

Renewables Can Diminish Expensive Kyrgyz Energy Imports

Abu Dhabi, UAE, 8 December 2022 – Rising fossil fuel imports are adding to the financial burdens of Kyrgyztan’s energy sector, according to a new report published today by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA). ‘Renewables Readiness Assessment: The Kyrgyz Republic’ identifies concrete actions that can help address the country’s energy challenges, develop a more diverse energy sector and improve the livelihoods of its citizens. Kyrgyzstan aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 44% by 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.

“Kyrgyzstan, like many countries in Central Asia and around the world, is striving to overcome the enduring challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic,” said IRENA Director-General Francesco La Camera. “As efforts to secure a comprehensive socio-economic recovery continue, there is a need to focus on far-reaching measures that can help build a more resilient and diversified economy, improve the energy sector’s viability, attract investments in clean energy projects and propel the country towards its climate goals.”

  • How to Avoid Gas Shortages in the European Union in 2023

How to Avoid Gas Shortages in the European Union in 2023

This new report provides the IEA’s latest analysis of the extent of the EU’s potential gas supply-demand gap in 2023 and sets out the practical actions that can close that gap while avoiding excessive strains for European consumers and for international markets. The analysis includes real-world examples of measures that could be implemented and quantifies their impacts. The measures offer a pathway to a more secure and balanced EU gas market in 2023 and are consistent with the EU’s climate goals.
