Para abordar el desafío climático global, Costa Rica se ha comprometido a transformar su economía a cero emisiones netas para 2050 y desarrolló el plan nacional de descarbonización para lograr este objetivo. En todo el mundo, la planificación urbana ha sido cada vez más la interacción para el uso de energía a nivel local. Este informe de IRENA explora opciones tecnológicas en la Gran Área Metropolitana del Valle Central de Costa Rica para contribuir a lograr la meta nacional de descarbonización y también mejorar la sostenibilidad de su jurisdicción. 

Overall, this study highlights the link between the National Decarbonisation Plan and the actions that local governments can take. This will not only facilitate the policy discussions around the removal of institutional and regulatory barriers to allow sub-national governments to devise specific plans and actions based on their localities, but also enable better co-ordination between urban planning and energy planning at the national level. This report forms part of the Energy Solutions for Cities of the Future project, which is supported by the International Climate Initiative (IKI).
